Some of the most pressing issues facing child and adolescent psychiatry are discussed at the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry’s (AACAP) Annual Meeting. Featuring over 300 new posters showing the latest findings in child psychiatry, this year’s meeting will be held virtually from October 18 through November 30, 2021. And among them will be two of Lorio Forensic’s own: Dr. Sarah Vinson and Dr. LeRoy Reese. As leaders in the field on matters of equity and race, they will add a much-needed, colorful lens to this conference.
The AACAP Annual Meeting will take place over a 6 week period, with a live educational session the week of October 25. Participants will be offered 30% off Institutes, with topics like psychopharmacology, autism, emotional dysregulation, and health disparities. There will be a variety of plenaries on these topics, as well. For medical students and member residents, free registration is available with up to 80 CMEs and 8 self-assessment credits. As experts from around the world connect to answer the most pressing questions in the field of child and adolescent psychiatry, the Lorio team will press them to wrestle with questions of race, explicitly.
Dr. Vinson will present, Health Equity in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry for Black and Latinx Children and Families alongside Dr. Wanjiku Njoroge, Dr. Kunmi Sobowale and Dr. Amalia Londono Tobon. In addition, Dr. LeRoy Reese will co-present on the topic, “But Why Though?”: The Marginalization of Black Americans in Children’s Movies. Dr. Resse will be joined by his colleagues Dr. Sheritta C. Carmichael, Dr. Kamille Williams and Dr. Hasani Baharanyi.
