
Dr. Steven Starks, MD, MBA, is a Licensed Psychiatric Physician and a Double Board Certified Adult and Geriatric Psychiatrist. He graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Dr. Starks earned a Master of Business Administration from the Yale School of Management and his Medical Degree from the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine. This was followed by a general psychiatry residency at Baylor College of Medicine, and a clinical fellowship in geriatric psychiatry at Yale. Dr. Starks went on to be a Health and Aging Policy Fellow in the Office of the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, as well as an American Political Science Association Congressional Fellowship during 116th Congress. Dr. Starks currently serves as an Outpatient Psychiatrist at the University of Houston Health Family Care Center.
Dr. Starks is adjunct faculty at the Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine. He previously served as Clinical Assistant Professor in the department, and Assistant Professor at the Baylor School of Medicine previous to that appointment. Dr. Starks has a broad range of clinical experience, including with the Veterans Administration, and private health centers. Dr. Starks has published extensively on topics including alcohol and addiction medicine, the opioid crisis, dementia, antipsychotic treatments, and many others. He sits on the Alzheimer’s Association Houston & Southeast Texas Chapter Board of Directors, the NAMI Greater Houston Board of Directors, and National Advisory Committee on Seniors and Disasters. In addition, Dr. Starks is a member of the National Committee for Quality Assurance’s Geriatric Measurement Advisory Panel.
